Both I and William Meredith were last year repeatedly approached by Mr. Sok, Permanent Mission, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, who requested WIPO’s support related to retrieving patent information, classifying patents using the IPC, using the IPC for search and searching patent information in free databases, etc.
We had, therefore, agreed on a mission to the DPKR to attend both a three day workshop on the above topics for about 100 participants in Pyongyang, and a visit to the IP office in order to assess their needs for support by WIPO’s office modernization program and by WIPO's Patent Information Service for developing countries and to discuss future collaboration. |
