Title: Regional Seminar on the International Protection of Trademarks for Competitiveness and Market Expansion; WIPO Participation in the OAPI's Trademark Award Ceremony
Description: During WIPO’s General Assemblies in September 2018, Mr. Denis Bohoussou, Director General of African Intellectual Property Organization (Organisation Africaine de la propriété intellectuelle (OAPI)) met with the representatives of Brands and Designs Sector to discuss the organization of a regional activity on awareness of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks for OAPI Member States in cooperation with the Regional Bureau for Africa.
Following the discussions with OAPI, it is proposed to organize a Regional Seminar on the Protection of Trademarks for Competitiveness and Market Expansion, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on April 12, 2019:
- The Regional Protection of Trademarks under the Bangui Agreement - OAPI
- The International Protection of Trademarks under the Madrid System-WIPO
To explain to the participants the importance of traemark protection in business; to provide the participants with general information on the Madrid System, procedures and regulations and its advantages for market penetration; to offer the participants an opportunity to discuss the challenges they are facing and encourage the use of the system.
At the end of the Seminar, all the participants will be invited to participate in the OAPI's Trademark Award on April 13, 2019.
