Title: Master Class Programs and Videos on Collective Management Organizations
Description: 1. A request was received from the Instituto de Derecho de Autor (IA) an NGO that was founded by the Spanish General Society for Authors and Publishers (SGAE) based in Spain, to join hands with WIPO in the organization of Master Class Programs for LLM students from three local universities based in Madrid, Spain, and to upload the recordings of the lectures into the websites of both WIPO and IA. The concept paper from IA is attached. The Copyright Law Division and the Copyright Infrastructure Division will jointly undertake this project with IA.
2. While Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) are playing important role in the management of copyright and related rights, knowledge on this subject in the Spanish language is generally not widely available. In this connection, IA, an NGO accredited as observer with WIPO since 2007 has approached WIPO in joining hands with them in organizing a series of 10 Master Class Programs for three local universities in Madrid, Spain, starting in September 2013, and ending in June 2014. The topics would focus on subjects related to copyright and related rights as well as collective management of copyright and related rights. The speakers would be identified by both IA and WIPO. These classes would be held in the evenings at the venue of IA in Madrid, on a monthly basis, each covering some two hours of lectures. The program shall be run in the Spanish language for 60 LLM students, with simultaneous interpretation into English language provided for the non-Spanish speaking lectures. At the end of the program, a certificate of attendance will be issued to those students who have attended the whole program, bearing the logos of both WIPO and IA.
