Title: SCCR Side Event "An Introduction to Transaparency, Accountability and Governance: The TAG
Description: To invite member and observer delegations to the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) to An Introduction to Transparency, Accountability and Governance in Collective Management: The TAG Compendium.
Member States will be invited to share their views and comments on the document. Members of the panel will include representatives from the rights holder community as well as from a national government.
Since 2002, within the framework of their cooperation agreement, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) organize specific training programs, referred to as “joint study days” for the general managers of copyright collective management organizations (CMOs) of the African continent. The study days are organized in the framework of the annual meeting of CISAC’s African Committee. Several topical issues of importance for the managers have been targeted in the previous meetings. In consultation with CISAC, the 2015 exercise will concentrate on private copying, audiovisual contracts, the Beijing and Marrakesh Treaties. The Transparency Accountability Governance (TAG) initiative will also be addressed and the meeting will provide an opportunity to sensitize African representatives to the second phase of the CDIP project 9/13 on “Strengthening the Audiovisual Industry in Africa”. For that reason, it was considered useful to invite the project coordinators from Senegal, Kenya, and Burkina Faso at the study days to address the status of the project and its follow up.
