As is now the practice since 2014, the African Intellectual Property Regional Organization (ARIPO) and WIPO will organize a thematic workshop on intellectual property (IP), which will coincide with the practical sessions of the Masters in Intellectual Property (MIP) program scheduled to take place at the ARIPO Headquarters. The first workshop for the 7th Edition of MIP program, took place in Harare, in November 2014, under the theme WIPO-ARIPO Sub-Regional Training of Trainers Program on Effective Management of Intellectual Property Assets by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. The second workshop for the 8th Edition of the MIP program with the theme Intellectual Property (IP) and Product Branding for Business Development in Africa, took place in November 2015. The 9th Edition of the MIP program started its residential phase on August 1, 2016, in Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe. They shall have their practical training at the ARIPO headquarters from November 28 to December 9, 2016. This year, the students’ visit in ARIPO will coincide with the 40th Anniversary celebrations and the inauguration of the extension of the ARIPO Headquarters’ Building, which is scheduled to take place on December 9, 2016.
In view of the above and following consultations among the Academy, Regional Bureau for Africa, and ARIPO, it is proposed to organize this year, the WIPO-ARIPO Regional Conference: Intellectual Property (IP) and Innovation in Africa, within the margins of the Celebrations.
The objective of the conference is to complement the MIP program studies with experience sharing so that the students can benefit from the presence of the policy makers, Heads of IP Offices and other key players in the field of IP in the continent, in practical terms of how IP system can be used for innovation and creativity and wealth creation.
I would like to bring to your attention the fact that during this same week, following
