1. As per conversations held during the 34th Session of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) with the representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an international workshop was requested for international negotiators engaged in bilateral and multilateral intellectual property negotiations. This workshop would allow the different agents to become better aware of copyright issues that are frequently included in the trade negotiations and emphasize the need to make copyright a focus in those negotiations. The meeting would take place in Brasilia, from June 19 to 20, 2017.
2. Taking the opportunity of the presence of WIPO officials in Brasilia, it is also proposed to undertake a meeting with the inter-ministerial copyright working group of Brazil in order to discuss in details the topics contained in the agenda of the SCCR. This meeting would take place on June 21, 2017.
3. On behalf of the Secretariat, it is proposed that Ms. Michele Woods, Director and Mr. Rafael Ferraz Vazquez, Associate Legal Officer, Copyright Law Division (CLD), attend these events in order to provide several presentations, and participate in the meeting with the inter-ministerial working group in order to discuss key SCCR issues, including the proposed broadcasting treaty.
