WIPO Director General Daren Tang signed agreements with partners in the Philippines and the United Kingdom to establish new Joint Master’s Programs in the field of IP.

The partnerships will widen access to practice-oriented IP education and equip professionals from multidisciplinary backgrounds with IP knowledge and skills to strengthen innovation and creative economies.

The agreement to establish the first Master’s in Intellectual Property Management and Innovation (MIPMI) in the Philippines was signed on September 20, 2026. The program will be offered by WIPO in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and De La Salle University. Applications for the program will open in 2027.

The MIPMI program in the Philippines combines face-to-face and online learning. It comprises courses in IP management, innovation, technology transfer and commercialization delivered by practitioners and specialists to prepare professionals to connect research with enterprise, manage intangible assets and strengthen innovation ecosystems in the Philippines and wider region.

The agreement with the University of Liverpool, signed on October 12, 2026 at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, establishes a full-time residential Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property, Innovation and Sustainable Creative Industries, scheduled to launch in September 2027. It will be WIPO’s first Joint Master’s Program in the United Kingdom.

The LL.M. program at the University of Liverpool combines IP law, strategy and management for participants from legal and non-legal backgrounds spanning the arts, music, science, technology and business. Covering areas such as new technologies, creative industries, commercialization and sustainability, it will prepare graduates to address emerging challenges including the practical implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for IP. Students may choose between a dissertation and a work placement and gain practical experience through the MusicFutures IP clinic, which links academic, public-sector and industry partners supporting commercialization and growth in the music sector. Stackable credentials will provide alternative routes towards the full qualification.

These partnerships extend the WIPO Academy’s growing network of Joint Master’s Programs and reaffirm WIPO’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality IP education for the benefit of everyone, everywhere. By connecting academic expertise with innovation and industry ecosystems, these programs aim to equip professionals to translate ideas and intangible assets into sustainable economic and social value.
