Project 1% is Bringing IP Education to Thousands in Nigeria

WIPO Academy and the WIPO Nigeria Office have joined forces in an effort to bring intellectual property (IP) education to 1% of Nigeria’s youth and students through “Project 1%”. By working with educational institutions and special communities of entrepreneurs, WIPO hopes to enroll 2,000,000+ individuals in the WIPO Academy’s Introductory Training on IP and its linkages to creativity and innovation in Africa by 2030.

"When I first saw this course, I thought to myself, 'But I am a medical student; is this course relevant to my discipline?' After taking the course, I am very glad that I didn’t let that thought stop me. I strongly believe that all disciplines are practiced through one form of intellectual property or the other. Thus, every individual deserves to learn how to protect and profit from their own intellect. This course provides a basic and fundamental knowledge of intellectual property, and its importance. Every individual capable of producing intellectual property deserves to be equipped with this knowledge." Ms. Nimat Okikiola

I highly recommend this course to others. It is very useful for anyone seeking to understand and protect their creative works and innovations. For those without prior knowledge, it provides a clear understanding of how to safeguard their written, performed, and other creative works. Professionals, on the other hand, will find it improves their expertise. Regardless of one’s career path, this course is a must-take, for it offers essential insights and knowledge that can benefit anyone.” – Ms. Uchenna C. Okeke
