Completion of Data Validation and Verification Project in Kenya

In 2024, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) with support from the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global, completed a data validation and verification project of KIPI’s trademark records.

The objectives of this project were to

  1. Verify and validate IP records across trademarks domains captured in the IPAS;
  2. Prepare for online services; and
  3. Improve quality of data exchange, at the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI).

Under this project, more than 140,000 trademark records were accurately validated, missing data captured, and any inconsistencies corrected. Sustainable data capture and validation mechanisms for future use were developed.

The project has helped streamline KIPI's operations and ensured the accuracy and reliability of its industrial property data, contributing significantly to the modernization of Kenya’s IP system.
