Empowering Indigenous Peoples through Uchi CreActivo

Young people in the Peruvian Amazon
are learning about intellectual property (IP)
through games that reflect and promote their heritage.
The Uchi CreActivo initiative equips youth from the Awajún Community
with the IP know-how and skills they need
to turn their traditional knowledge and cultural expressions
into products that boost their community’s income,
support their development and preserve their traditions.
WIPO has been working with the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of IP
to support the community with commercialization strategies.
To further the impact of Uchi CreActivo,
teachers and regional IP offices are being mentored to replicate the model,
helping indigenous peoples across the country.
