Symposium on Wastewater Technologies to Address One Health AMR

  • The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is pleased to host the Symposium on Wastewater Technologies to Address One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).||AMR poses a major global threat to human, animal, and environmental health, and AMR efforts have primarily focused on stewardship in human and animal health. Wastewater is increasingly recognized as a critical pathway and vital interface for One Health in the fight against the spread of antimicrobial resistant microorganisms and genes. The symposium will explore how innovative detection and treatment technologies can mitigate AMR risks, strengthen environmental surveillance, and support national and global efforts to operationalize the One Health approach.||The symposium aims to raise awareness on the impact of wastewater and advance global collaboration on AMR mitigation through innovation-driven solutions at the environment-health interface. It will highlight the role of innovation, intellectual property (IP), and partnerships in accelerating the adaptation and scale-up of wastewater technologies, drawing on experiences from diverse settings. It will also provide a platform for dialogue among policymakers, researchers, and international partners on how to embed wastewater interventions into AMR strategies and technology transfer initiatives.||Reception||Following the symposium, a reception will be held at 17:00.

This session aims to shed light on the motivations behind consumers’ decisions to buy counterfeit goods by analyzing the findings of the 2023 Global Anti-Counterfeiting Consumer Survey, undertaken by the Center for Anti-Counterfeiting and Product Protection (A-CAPP). Understanding consumer perceptions is key when designing campaigns to alter behavior. The Role of the Domain Name System in Online Copyright Enforcement

Trademark Enforcement Issues in the Metaverse

  • The metaverse enables us to participate through avatars in a range of virtual activities such as football matches, music concerts and fashion shows, many of which involve trademarks. Some trademark holders have already sought trademark registration to prevent the unauthorized use of their marks in the metaverse. Nevertheless, goods bearing counterfeit trademarks are openly traded and used in the metaverse via Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). The NFT market is already flooded with counterfeits, leaving both trademark owners and NFT consumers confused and discontent. Some are calling for large NFT markets to better police their operations through voluntary best practices.||This webinar looks at the trade of virtual goods bearing counterfeit trademarks in the metaverse, the main trademark disputes that have arisen in the framework of the metaverse so far and the solutions that have been identified to effectively enforce trademarks in this fast-developing virtual space.

The Role of Border Measures in IP Enforcement

The aim of these workshops is to strengthen the capacity of policymakers and experts in member governments to address the pandemic accordingly. The first in the series of workshops, scheduled for September 27, 2021, will address technology transfer and licensing. It will convey information to enhance knowledge and understanding of how IP, know-how and technology transfer work in practice, not only vis-à-vis medical technologies but also for related products and services. Participation is open to representatives of members of WHO, WIPO and WTO and WTO accession candidates. Online registration is mandatory by September 26, 2021. The workshop will be held in English only; no interpretation will be available.

  • The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is inviting accredited Non-Governmental Organizations to a meeting to be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013, from 15.00 to 16.30, in Room NB Conference 0.107 in the new WIPO building. |Launched as an initiative to provide a forum for an exchange of views on the international intellectual property system generally and the work of WIPO specifically, the meeting will offer an opportunity for a direct dialogue with the Director General on the priorities and objectives of WIPO in 2013, as well as a reflection of the achievements of 2012.   • On March 29, 1996, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organized a Conference on Mediation, which was held at its headquarters in Geneva. The purpose of the Conference was to examine the position of mediation as a dispute-resolution procedure in the contemporary world and, particularly, the reasons for the increased interest in mediation, the main features, advantages and limitations of mediation, the suitability of mediation to intellectual property disputes and the different understandings and uses of mediation that prevail in various cultural contexts. The conference was attended by 150 persons from 35 countries. WIPO was fortunate to have the participation of a number of eminent international specialists to make presentations and to lead the discussions on the various aspects of mediation considered during the Conference. This section contains the texts of their presentations, together with the transcript of the discussions that took place during the Conference.
