Video games have become one of the largest and fastest-growing sectors of the global digital economy and are increasingly shaping discussions around creativity, innovation and intellectual property (IP). Drawing on copyright, trademarks, patents and designs, the video game sector provides a unique lens through which to explore emerging challenges and opportunities for IP systems.
This event brings together experts from industry, academia, international organizations and government to explore the future relationship between video games and IP. Through high-level dialogue and a foresight exercise based on four scenarios for 2037, participants will examine how developments such as artificial intelligence, user-generated content, digital distribution, virtual economies and evolving business models may influence creativity, innovation and IP systems in the years ahead.
The afternoon program will feature three thematic tracks:
- Track 1: Protecting creativity: IP foundations of the video game ecosystem
- Track 2: Empowering creators: IP fueling the next generation of video game innovators
- Track 3: Amplifying Impact: Video games as partners for UN agencies
