Background 1
At its twenty-sixth session, the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (the “SCT”) agreed to organize an information meeting on the role and responsibility of Internet intermediaries in the field of trademarks, to take place back to back with the twenty seventh session of the SCT. The meeting is not intended to constitute a forum for examining the issue, preparing proposals or making recommendations or decisions. Its purpose is limited to providing information.
Venue and Dates
The Information meeting will take place on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Program
The program features a balanced representation of speakers from different geographical regions, business areas and interests and will cover:
- The point of view of brand owners regarding the role and responsibility of Internet intermediaries in the field of trademarks.
- The position of Internet intermediaries and online service providers concerning the role and responsibility of Internet intermediaries in the field of trademarks.
- The point of view of academia.
- The views of users.
- National and regional experiences, including experience with alternative dispute resolution and public-private partnerships (PPP).

Interpretation
Interpretation will be provided from and into English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian.
Registration
The meeting is open for registration by representatives of WIPO Member States and observer organizations. Furthermore, a limited number of seats will be made available to individual participants on a strict first come first served basis. All participants are requested to register online (registration closed).
