WIPO Director General Wraps Up Visit to Indonesia, Pledges Support for its Creative and Innovation Economy

WIPO Director General Daren Tang concluded a visit to Indonesia from August 11-13, 2025, witnessing first-hand how the nation has embraced intellectual property (IP) as a powerful engine driving economic transformation. His visit coincided with the lead-up to Indonesia's 80th independence celebration on August 17th, offering a timely opportunity to reflect on the country's remarkable transformation journey.

During his visit, Mr. Tang engaged in productive discussions with ministers and senior officials across key portfolios including law, foreign affairs, creative economy, culture and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). His discussions extended beyond government officials to vibrant exchanges with musicians and industry leaders. A consistent message was evident in all discussions: Indonesia has strategically positioned IP at the heart of its development strategy, fueling job creation, attracting investments and stimulating growth - especially within its flourishing digital and creative sectors. Indonesia has transitioned from an economy traditionally known for its natural resources to emerge as a dynamic nexus of creativity and innovation in the region.
