Main Findings
In 2006, 189 institutions (universities, hospitals and research institutions) received 18.874 invention disclosures, an increase of 8.6% from 2005. Patent applications were as well on the increase, reaching 15.908 among respondents. During the same time period, 3.255 patents were issued.
Overall, universities, hospitals and research institutions licensed small companies, large companies and start-ups at 48.7%, 33.2% and 15.4%, respectively. Almost two thirds of licenses executed were of non-exclusive nature. The number of new licenses and options executed in 2006 reached almost 5000, a slight increase with respect to 2005. 697 new products were introduced to the market from active licensees. The total number of active licences yielding income amounted to over 12.600.
