Main Findings
51% of online teens admit to downloading music. About a third of those who do not currently download music files did so in the past, and 31% download video files. Music and video downloading is most common among older teen boys. The most popular sources for music files are peer-to-peer networks along with e-mail and instant messaging, with roughly a third of music-downloading teens using these channels to get music. Also about a third of music downloaders report using legal online music services, such as iTunes.
Almost half of online teens think downloading without permission is wrong. However, about the same number say that they do not care about the copyright of the music they download. 75% of those who download music say it is "so easy that it is unrealistic to expect people not to do it".
