International Youth Day 2022 Celebrations

Youth Movie Night

On August 12, 2022, people across the globe gathered to celebrate International Youth Day. True to our endeavor to include and empower youth in the IP global arena, this year the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the International Trade Center (ITC) has decided to extend the celebrations through a series of events spanning from August to October 2022.

wipo youth movie night 2022

Following our kick-off event on International Youth Day (IYD), we invite you to join us for a Youth Movie Night that will take place on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 both in person and online. Putting the spotlight on the amazing young talents of the film industry, we selected a group of young filmmakers from different countries to screen their short films at WIPO’s headquarters in Geneva. The event will also be livestreamed online to allow for a worldwide audience. The films will be touching on various subjects in the spirit of this year’s IYD theme: intergenerational solidarity, creating a world for all ages.

Similar to the IYD webinar we hosted on 12 August 2022, this event will again highlight the need for intergenerational support and solidarity throughout the creation and innovation lifecycle. In addition to enjoying youth-made entertainment, we would also like to critically engage the audience through thoughtful discussion around the themes of the films being screened. As such, there will be a segment for an intergenerational discussion between the leadership of ITC and WIPO as well as three winners of the ITC-AfCFTA Creative Competition. You will also be able to interact with the three filmmakers about their unique journeys as creators.

Come and support our young creators during this jam-packed night of entertainment and dialogue!

What’s on the horizon?

After a successful International Youth Day webinar that took place on August 12, followed by a Youth Movie Night on September 20, ITC and WIPO are hosting an in-person Youth Art and Innovation Fair at WIPO headquarters on October 4, 2022 with the collaboration of AddictLab, an international creative think tank based in Geneva.

The Art and Innovation Fair is the third event in the series of events celebrating International Youth Day, with the purpose of introducing a wide audience to innovations and creations of the past, present and to spark curiosity and thought about the future.

The event will take participants through an exhibition space consisting of various stations showcasing some of the weird and wonderful concepts, creations and inventions the world has produced. Some stations will feature interactive activities that will aim to ignite the kind of design-thinking needed to be able to innovate and create.

In line with the respective mandates of WIPO and ITC, the fair aims to engage participants in a dialogue about the role of intellectual property rights and entrepreneurship to empower young creators and innovators.
