WIPO Standards ST.60 and ST.3

  1. The bibliographic data in respect of international marks are identified by the WIPO INID codes (INID stands for "Internationally agreed Numbers for the Identification of Data"), that is, the codes of Standard ST.60 ("Recommendation concerning bibliographic data relating to marks") and Standard ST.3 ("Recommended standard two-letter code for the representation of States, other entities and international organizations issuing or registering industrial property titles"). The dates are given in Standardized DD.MM.YYYY format.
  2. The various codes of Standard ST.60 used in the Gazette and the bibliographic data to which they relate are given below, together with explanatory notes. The ST.3 Standard codes are indicated in the list of Countracting Parties of the Madrid Agreement and/or Protocol.

Explanatory Notes

Re: INID code (161)
Within the publication of renewals of international registrations, this code is used for prior registrations having expired before the entry into force (in 1966) of the Nice Act.
Re: INID codes (171) and (176)
Within the "WIPO Gazette of International Marks", the codes (171) and (176) are respectively used for international registrations and renewals bound by the Regulations under the Madrid Agreement in force until March 31, 1996 and in respect of which fees have been paid for 20 years.
Re: INID code (180)
The code (180) is used to indicate the date on which the next payment is due to maintain the international registration in force, whether this is regarded as the payment of a renewal fee (under the Protocol) or a second installment (under the Agreement).
Re: INID code (350)
Seniority: Member State of Contracting Organization, followed by (a) Registration number; (b) Registration date; (c) Filing date; (d) Date of priority, where applicable. Where the seniority is claimed from an international registration, the country code of the Member State or States will be preceded by the letters WO.
Re: INID code (527)
The code (527) may be used not only for indications relating to actual use but also for indications of intention to use the mark.
Re: INID code (580)
Within the "WIPO Gazette of International Marks" (as regards international registrations, subsequent designations and corrections), code (580) is used to indicate the date of notification by the International Bureau to the designated Contracting Parties, from which date the time limit to notify the refusal of protection under Article 5 of the Agreement or Article 5 of the Protocol starts.

These codes also cover several holders, or licensees.
Re: INID and (812) and (813)
Only applicable where the address of the holder (or of one of the holders) is not in the territory of the Contracting Party whose Office is the Office of origin or, where a change in the ownership of the international registration has been recorded in the International Register, where the address of the transferee (or of one of the Contracting Parties) in respect of which the transferee fulfills the conditions to be the holder of an international registration.
Re: INID codes (821) and (822)
In some cases (e.g., where a country which has become party to the Protocol still applies the single class application system), the international application (exclusively governed by the Protocol) can be based on one or more basic applications (code (821)) and basic registrations (code (822)) if the international registration covers several classes of goods and/or services.
Re: INID codes (831) and (833)
No INID codes are provided for where a change can only affect all the designated Contracting Parties (in the case of total change in ownership).
Re: INID codes (831) and (832)
By "designation" is meant a territorial extension made in the international application or subsequent to the international registration. Code (831) and/or code (832) will be used in the publication of international registrations, subsequent designations, renewals and partial changes in ownership.
Re: INID code (833)
This code will be used in the publications of renunciations, limitations and partial cancellation.
Re: INID codes (841) and (842)
The information covered by these codes is optional for the purposes of international registration and is intended to comply with requirements under the laws of some designated Contracting Parties.
Re: INID code (851)
This code will be used where a limitation of the list of goods and services is included in an international application or in a subsequent designation.
Re: INID code (871)
In the case of a partial assignment of the international registration, the assigned part (recorded in the name of the transferee) will bear the same number as the international registration concerned, followed by a capital letter.
Re: INID code (874)
This code is used where the name and/or address of the holder changes without any change in the ownership of the international registration.
