INCIPE, a WIPO Academy training model designed to integrate IP education in national and school curricula, was successfully implemented as a teaching model in a Hanoi-based classroom. This success was made possible through collaboration between the WIPO Academy and the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam (IP Viet Nam), with support from the Funds-in-Trust Japan – IP Global and the Funds-in-Trust Japan – Copyright. This partnership provided the platform for the Regional Training Program for Educators in ASEAN Countries on Innovation, Creativity, Intellectual Property (IP) and Entrepreneurship (INCIPE) held from November 25 to 28, 2025, in Hanoi.
The four-day program brought together 69 teachers, curriculum designers and education policymakers from eight ASEAN Member States—Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam—with women representing 61% of all participants.
The training aimed at strengthening national education systems by equipping educators with practical tools to embed innovation, creativity and IP concepts across primary and secondary school curricula.
Opening the event, IP Viet Nam Deputy Director General Mr. Tran Le Hong, JPO Deputy Director Ms. Yuki Obinata, and Ms. Altaye Tedla Desta, Director at WIPO Academy, emphasized the importance of empowering teachers as catalysts for building future-ready innovation ecosystems.
Participants explored global innovation trends, hands-on teaching methodologies and WIPO-developed tools through a combination of expert-led sessions, interactive IP games, scenario-based simulations and collaborative curriculum design exercises. Educators engaged in practice-based pedagogy workshops covering creativity, branding, copyright and problem-solving techniques.
A First for ASEAN: Live Delivery of the INCIPE Model Lesson
A key highlight of the program was the first-ever delivery of the INCIPE model lesson in an ASEAN classroom. At Ta Quang Buu Secondary & High School, 13–14-year-old students participated in a gamified innovation challenge facilitated by Mr. Trung Trinh, an alumnus of the 2024 ASEAN INCIPE Program. Under the observation of workshop participants, students applied patent search techniques, outside-the-box thinking and Ideal Final Result (IFR) methods to develop solutions to climate-related challenges, demonstrating how innovation, STEM and IP can be taught in real school settings.
The workshop also featured a Youth Innovation Showcase, where Vietnamese young creators shared their journeys. Her message to educators resonated strongly across the region:

A Regional Push Toward Innovation-Ready Education
Throughout the week, participants emphasized the value of regional collaboration, peer-to-peer learning and the exchange of country practices on innovation education. Evaluations highlighted the relevance and feasibility of integrating INCIPE-based lessons into existing school subjects, as well as the need for continued capacity-building and localized materials to support national implementation efforts.
The training concluded with the launch of Phase 3: Certification and Coaching, where teachers, curriculum designers and education policymakers will finalize lesson plans, curriculum outlines and national white papers advocating for IP education.
