Arabia Saudita se adhiere al Sistema de Madrid de la OMPI

Saudi Arabia has joined the Madrid System, bringing its geographical reach to 133 countries and reinforcing its position as a practical and efficient solution for protecting trademarks worldwide.

National trademark holders in five – Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – of the six countries that make up the Gulf Cooperation Council can now use the Madrid System to secure cross-border protection of their brands.

The Madrid Protocol (the governing Treaty of the Madrid System) will enter into force in Saudi Arabia on October 8, 2026.

What does this mean for you (effective October 8, 2026)

  • If you are a brand owner in Saudi Arabia you can seek protection of your trademark in any Madrid System member, through a single international trademark application – one language, one set of fees, one currency. Find out more about filing international trademark applications.

  • If you are a trademark holder in another Madrid System member you can designate Saudi Arabia in your international trademark applications, unlocking a new market.

  • If you already have an international trademark registration you can expand protection to include Saudi Arabia. Find out more about expanding protection.

Detailed information

Download Information Notice 35/2026 [PDF] for details on time limits for provisional refusals, fees for designating Saudi Arabia, and more.

We will add information about Saudi Arabia’s trademark laws, practices and procedures to our member profiles under eMadrid in due course.
