New WIPO Academy–World Bank Course

WIPO and the World Bank have launched their first distance learning joint initiative. The WIPO Specialized Distance Learning Course on Software Licensing Including Open Source (DL-511) is the first course on intellectual property (IP) to be made accessible through the World Bank’s Open Learning Campus.

The course aims to support World Bank staff and stakeholders to better keep up with IP developments in the field of IT, particularly in relation to innovation.

Topics covered

The four-module course covers several topics relating to software licensing and open source:

• IP regimes for software;
• Software licensing;
• The benefits and risks of open source strategies; and,
• Public policy options to support wider access to software.
