IP & Gastronomic Tourism

Transcript

Through WIPO’s Project on IP Gastronomic Tourism,
we supported countries in Central America and the Dominican Republic
to develop a national strategy and implementation plan
on how to use IP to boost gastronomic tourism.
With WIPO’s support, countries also designed proposals for transforming
specific origin-based products and regions
into an attractive touristic experience through IP.
“Hello, I am Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism in El Salvador
and I would like to thank WIPO for organizing this forum on intellectual property
and gastronomic tourism in Central America and the Dominican Republic,
here in El Salvador.
I am sure that this is the beginning
of a path to improve our gastronomic tourism
through intellectual property.”
Local communities were mobilized
and key stakeholders from the gastronomy and tourism sectors
were trained to turn these strategies and proposals into a reality.
A regional plan was also developed
to foster cooperation in promoting
the region as a culinary destination in the near future.
The project’s results were showcased
at the Subregional Forum on IP and Gastronomic Tourism,
held in El Salvador in June 2025,
with over 65 participants from ministries of economy and tourism,
IP offices and key gastronomy stakeholders.
