After seven months of intensive training and mentorship on the use of intellectual property as a business development and financing strategy, the 300 startup entrepreneurs onboarded into the WIPO Intellectual Property Labs 2.0 Project have successfully completed the program. A Demo Exhibition Day event is scheduled to hold at the United Nations House, Abuja on May 22, 2025 to officially close the project and celebrate the success of the participants.

The IP Labs project, which is in its second edition, is a WIPO IP-based capacity-building program for startups in Nigeria. The second edition officially launched on October 8, 2024, with an information roundtable which took place in Lagos, Nigeria. Present at the event were key figures in the Nigerian tech & IP landscape including Mr. Nasir Yammama, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Innovation; Mr. Tunbosun Alake, Lagos State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Ms. Lynda Alpheus, Director of the Lagos Office of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Mr. Oswald Guobadia, Former Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Digital Transformation and partner at DigitA; Ms. Tracy Okoro Isaac, Partner at Digit A; Mr. Senator Ihenyen, Lead Partner at Infusion Lawyers; Ms. Shukurat Amosa, Intellectual Property Consultant; Mr. Victor Boyle-Komolafe, Founder & CEO at GIVO Africa and Mr. Lanre Ogundipe, CEO at PaveHQ.
Following the launch event, 300 entrepreneurs, selected from a total of 615 applicants were onboarded into the program via a virtual event on October 16, 2024. The program comprised of two stages. The first stage was an acceleration training which held from October to December 2024 and was facilitated by the project implementing partner, The Orbra Company.
The second stage of the project, which focused on the WIPO IP Management Clinics, held from January to April 2025. It involved training and mentorship with specialized IP and Business Developments Experts on formulating effective IP strategies for business growth.
The Demo Exhibition Day event will feature presentations from the program participants, who will demonstrate their solutions, their IP strategy and the potential impact of their business. The audience will include industry experts, potential investors, and policymakers, as well as members of the diplomatic community.
