WIPO China: WIPO Director General Wraps up Visit to China

WIPO Director General Daren Tang visited China from October 12-16, 2025, during which he attended the 14th China International Patent Fair (CIPF) and the 2025 International Copyright Forum and delivered opening remarks. During his visit, Mr. Tang also met with senior officials and academic leaders.

Dalian engagements

  • Held bilateral talks with the Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) Changyu Shen on the latest developments in the IP landscape, and future cooperation between WIPO and CNIPA.
  • Delivered an opening speech at the 14th CIPF and presented the 25th WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention and Industrial Design to the winners.
  • Met with Deputy Party Secretary of Liaoning and Party Secretary of Dalian Maoping Xiong, Vice Governor of Liaoning Libo Wang and Mayor of Dalian Shaowang Chen to discuss the role of IP in promoting innovation in the region.
  • Met with Vice President of POP MART Xiaoyun Chen and discussed POP MART’s business model, which relies primarily on IP commercialization.
  • Visited Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and delivered a speech to the faculty and students.

Qingdao engagements

  • Discussed matters relating to the development of IP in Shandong province with Party Secretary of Shandong Wu Lin and the Executive Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee Heping Hu.
  • Visited the 10th China International Copyright Expo (CICE).
  • Delivered an opening speech at the 2025 International Copyright Forum and presented awards to the winners of the WIPO-NCAC Copyright Awards.
