Madrid System: Antigua and Barbuda Now Issuing Registration Certificates
July 27, 2023
Have you recently designated – or are you thinking of designating – Antigua and Barbuda in a Madrid System international trademark registration? Good news! The Antigua and Barbuda Intellectual Property & Commerce Office will now – once they have granted protection – provide you with a national trademark registration certificate together with the statement of grant of protection.
How does this help you?
An official statement of grant of protection, as issued by a country using the "WIPO model form template", is not always recognized by local authorities, who are more familar with national certificates.
The national registration certificate – issued in the local language and with the official stamping of the intellectual property office – will therefore help you to enforce your rights (for example, during court proceedings or before customs authorities), and prove that your trademark has protection in the country concerned.
