Name: E Lipsey Organization: GenericTerms.com Position: Owner Allowing a generic term to have trademark protection oversteps the purposes of trademark law and violates the fundamental concepts of fair competition. It's not the purpose of trademark protection to allow a firm to prevent its competitors from informing consumers about the attributes of the competitors' brands or services. A company can not appropriate the English language, and by doing so render a competitor inarticulate.
