 Name: Christian Sampson Organization: Christian Sampson Position: PhD student / internet entrepreneur While it is important to give protection to people and companies who hold rights to names WIPO should also consider the impact of its decisions on the democratic functioning of the internet. If selected individuals and companies are to be granted exclusive worldwide right to generic names it would result in an undemocratic monopolizing of domain names by famous and wealthy people/corporaitons. While such a situation might be desirable from many corporations point of view, this is not the sort of world users of the internet want.
