Name: Mike Bruner Organization: Sharpcurve Position: Internet Consultant I am concerned that policies on resolving domain name disputes are not respecting the rights of the domain name holder. Aside from obvious and exact domain names that infringe on trademarks, the domain name registrant's right should, in general, supercede claims to that domain name based on geography, name, or similarity to an existing name. Otherwise the interests of the satus quo will almost always overtake the interests of the individual. The world is too big to restrict domain name use to whoever hires a lawyer. The fact is that hundreds of people or more have perfectly legitimate claims to the same domain name. The only way to handle registration is to follow the time-honored tradition that "the early bird gets the worm."
