Premium Name Trademark Applications

General Information

This information contained below is based on currently available information which might be subject to change. Parties are advised to consult with the registry operator.
Purpose: Sponsored TLD "dedicated to delivering the Internet to mobile devices"
Registry: Mobile Top Level Domain Ltd. (mTLD)
Status: Registry Agreement with ICANN signed on July 10, 2005
Aimed at:
  • Individual and business consumers of mobile devices, services and applications
  • Content and service providers
  • Mobile operators
  • Mobile device manufacturers and technology and software vendors serving the mobile community
Dispute Resolution Policies:

Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP)

  • For post-registration disputes concerning trademark rights.
  • All registrants agree to be bound by the UDRP. The UDRP applies to complaints relating to registered domain names based on the grounds that:

    1. A domain name is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark in which the complainant has rights; and
    2. The registrant has no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the domain name; and
    3. The domain name has been registered and used in bad faith.

Sunrise Challenge Policy

Sunrise Challenge Rules

  • Exclusively administered by the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center
  • For disputes concerning eligibility to register during Sunrise RegistrationPeriod
  • Challenge successful if (see Paragraph 4(c)):

    1. Registrant has no current trademark registration, or
    2. Domain name is not identical to text of trademark registration, or
    3. Trademark registration is not of national effect, or
    4. Trademark is not registered or applied for prior to July 11, 2005.
Challengers requesting transfer are required to demonstrate their compliance with the Sunrise registration conditions by submitting a trademark certificate.

Note: The Sunrise Challenge Period ended on December 15, 2006.

Premium Name Trademark Application Rules

  • Exclusively administered by the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center
  • To determine eligibility to register a Premium Name during the Premium Name Trademark Application Period
  • Eligibility granted if (see Paragraph 2 concerning Premium Name Trademark Registration Conditions):

    1. Applicant is the holder of a current trademark registration; and
    2. Premium Name is identical to textual or word elements of trademark registration; and
    3. Trademark registration is of national effect, and its relevant textual or word elements have not been disclaimed; and
    4. Trademark was registered or applied for in the name of the Applicant prior to July 11, 2005; and
    5. Trademark has been used by the Applicant or with its consent for a period of at least five years in a manner specified in the Rules.
Applicants are required to demonstrate their compliance with the Premium Name Trademark Registration Conditions by submitting relevant trademark certificates and documentary evidence.

Note: The Premium Name Trademark Application Period ended on October 13, 2006.
