EPO Worldwide Patent Statistical Database (PATSTAT) European Patent Office; World Bibliographic data, citations and family links of about 70 million patent applications of more than 80 countries. Subscription and minimal fee required.
NBER patent data National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) This database has been used extensively in economic research and contains granted United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) patent data, including names of inventors, names of assignees, grant and application dates, technology classes, forward citations and a key matching patents to firms in the COMPUTSAT database. This key is particularly useful as matching firms to patents is an otherwise difficult task.
Disambiguation and Co-authorship Networks of the U.S. Patent Inventor Database (1975 - 2010) Institute of Quantitative Social Science, Harvard University An update to the original NBER Patent Data. This new database contains granted USPTO patent data, including names of inventors, names of assignees, grant and application dates, technology classes, forward citations and a key identifying individual inventors. This key is based upon a disambiguating algorithm. It is particularly useful as disambiguating inventor names is an otherwise difficult task.
OECD Triadic Patent Families Database Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) This databases covers 'triadic patents' - set of patents filed for at the EPO, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and granted by the USPTO that share one or more priority applications. This can be useful for identifying important patents (since applicants must have deemed worthwile to apply in multiple jurisdictions) or for constructing national patent counts that are not subject to 'home bias' (the tendency of domestic inventors to file more frequently in their home country). Registration required.
OECD REGPAT OECD Patent applications to the EPO and Patent Corporation Treaty (PCT) filings linked to more than 5,500 regions using the inventors/applicants addresses (covering regions from selected countries outside the OECD area). Registration required.
OECD Citations Database OECD Citations from patents published by the EPO, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) via Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Registration required.
