Call for Applications: WIPO - ASEAN Lab-to-Market (L2M) Program 2025 - 2026

Supporting University-Based Technology Innovation and IP Commercialization in ASEAN

Are you a knowledge and technology transfer (K&TT) practitioner working in a university or public research institution in the ASEAN region?

Do you want to accelerate the commercialization of your innovations and strengthen your institution’s impact on society and the economy?

The ASEAN Lab-to-Market (L2M) Program is now open for applications!

What is Lab2Market?

The World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) is launching the Lab to Market (L2M) Program, funded by the Republic of Korea thought its Funds-in-Trust. L2M program is developed to fill a research translational gap in the ASEAN countries, and it aims to provide technology transfer professionals (TTPs) with skills and mentoring support to commercialize IP.

L2M consists of the following three phases:

  • Training and Networking: up to 40 selected participants will attend in person ATTP-accredited training focusing on IP and Market strategy, and Thailand Innovation Policy Forum in November 2025 (WIPO will cover travel and accommodation costs of up to 12 selected participants);
  • Mentoring: up to 12 selected projects will receive 1:1 mentoring support with expert technology commercialization mentors for up to 9 months;
  • Final event: all participants will be invited to attend the final online showcase event.

Both the training and the mentoring will be delivered by Oxentia Ltd, an innovation management consultancy based in Oxford. To date, Oxentia has worked with clients in more than 70 countries. These include multiple years of experience in ASEAN, specifically in Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia, working with local governments and UK founders and partners.

What is ATTP?

The Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP) is a global non-profit that sets international standards for technology transfer and knowledge exchange. It oversees professional accreditation, including the Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) accreditation, and promotes global collaboration and best practice sharing in the field.

What will the course cover?

The IP and Market Strategy course equips managers with tools to align IP assets with market opportunities. Participants gain hands-on expertise in IP landscaping, freedom-to-operate analysis, market research, and strategy development. Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and real-world case studies attendees will gain an understanding of IP rights and how to develop their IP strategy.

Key Topics Covered:

  • IP Landscaping
  • Freedom to Operate (FtO)
  • Market Research
  • IP Audit
  • IP Strategy

Who can apply for L2M?

The program is open to technology transfer professionals (TTPs) from the ASEAN region. While the program is competitive, there’s no minimum requirements for TTPs to apply. In order to be eligible for mentoring, applicants must also present a project proposal. This should be an existing project that they are supporting within their institution/TTO. We will require all participants to the mentoring program to provide evidence that the project exists, and that they have the right to support the project. All applicants must also seek approval from their employer/institution prior to applying for the program.

L2M application deadline?

The application deadline is: October 1, 2025 COB.

What next?

Successful applicants will be notified by email.

The applicants selected for mentoring will be invited for a brief 30-minute interview with a member of the Oxentia team, which will serve as an initial project diagnostic and support the mentor-project matching process. Participants selected for project support will also be asked to fill out a needs assessment questionnaire, aimed at understanding what specific areas of support they require from mentoring.
