Handling of Deposited Microorganisms After the Prescribed Storage Period
Practices of International Depositary Authorities
This page provides information on the practices of International Depositary Authorities (IDAs) on the handling of deposited microorganisms after the storage period prescribed under Rule 9.1 of the Regulations under the Budapest Treaty.
Rule 9.1 of the Regulations specifies the period for which an IDA must store deposited microorganisms. As the Regulations do not address the obligations of IDAs with respect to the handling of deposited microorganisms after the expiry of the prescribed storage period, Member States and IDAs have the freedom to adopt their own practices in this regard.
The information on such practices made available here was submitted by IDAs to the International Bureau of WIPO.
