Curriculum Vitae - Piet Schalkwijk

Director Intellectual Property, Akzo Nobel N.V.

Piet Schalkwijk has been active in the IP profession within Akzo Nobel since 1975, and a director since 1988. Mr. Schalkwijk hasextensive experience in the handling of international IP disputes (including litigations), licensing and IP aspects of transactional matters such as mergers, acquisitions and divestments.

Mr. Schalkwijk is a CEDR accredited mediator and a INTA neutral and mediator for the Netherlands Mediation Institute (NMI). He has experience in complex IP disputes, including Court annex mediations in the US and has acted as mediator in a complicated IP dispute between large multinationals.

Mr. Schalkwijk is Chairman of the IP Committee of the Confederation of Dutch Industry and Employers, Treasurer of the Dutch AIPPI group, Chairman of the Dutch Foundation for the Education of Patent Attorneys, and a member of the patents working groups of Unice and Cefic.

Mr. Schalkwijk holds a Master’s degree (cum laude) in Chemistry (University of Utrecht, 1975), a teaching degree in Economics (University of Utrecht, 1975). He is a Dutch and European patent attorney and an official representative before OHIM.
