Senior Counsel for Intellectual Property, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Ms. Hammersla is an attorney with expertise in intellectual property and transaction law, university policies, computer software, educational materials, government regulations and policies as they apply to research, compliance, and technology transfer. She has had fifteen years of direct responsibility for the management and negotiation of research contracts and licenses for university research and technology transfer programs. Ms. Hammersla has licensed university technologies in many areas including software, courseware, multi-media, materials, agriculture, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Her responsibilities have also included working with researchers, inventors, senior university and corporate officers to develop unique collaborative relationships, licenses and agreements with industry and government that involved complex copyright, patent, policy, research, and technology transfer issues. Ms. Hammersla has provided counsel for senior university administrators and faculty on university policies, federal regulations, case law and statutes that affect research, university intellectual property, and technology transfer programs. She has experience also with litigation issues for research programs, licensed technologies, conflicts of interests and infringement issues.
Ms. Hammersla is currently the Immediate Past President on the Board of the Association of University Technology Managers (“AUTM”). Ms. Hammersla is a former board member of the Council on Governmental Relations (“COGR”) and is currently a member of COGR’s Contract and Intellectual Property Committee.
Ms. Hammersla has consulted with several institutions and presented many workshops and sessions on intellectual property, start-up corporations, and federal regulations. She is also a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (“NACUA”), and the National Council of University Research Administrators (“NCURA”).
