New WIPO Master’s Degree in Business Management of IP in Oman

WIPO will be teaming up with the University of Nizwa in Oman to offer a new Joint Master’s Program in Business Management of Intellectual Property (IP) starting in August, 2024. The 18-month graduate program is the first of its kind in the region that will offer students a unique perspective on the interdependence of business management strategies and IP assets to maximize their economic impact within enterprises.

What will the new Joint Master’s Program cover?

Situated in the historic city of Nizwa, the program is designed for future business executives looking to build the skills needed to combine business strategies, technology, and a nuanced understanding of IP legal principles to navigate their business journey with confidence.

Some of the courses covered during the program will include topics on:

  • Business law;
  • Business management;
  • The innovation life cycle;
  • IP protection and portfolio management strategies;
  • IP valuation; and
  • Licensing and commercialization of IP rights.

Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of the WIPO Academy, signed an agreement with Dr. Salem Al Abri, Dean of the Department of Business Management, on behalf of Professor Ahmed Al Harrasi, Vice-Chancellor of Graduate Studies, Research and External Relations of the University of Nizwa, to offer the new Joint Master’s Program on the margins of the First Innovation Forum on February 6, 2024. The First Innovation Forum was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman, and the Oman Academy for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises on February 6 and 7, 2024.  Mr. Saadallah participated in panel discussions on The Role of Intellectual Property in Enhancing the Knowledge-Based Economy at the Forum and met with inventors exhibiting their innovations.

This Joint Master’s Program with University of Nizwa marks WIPO’s 17th graduate program offering. Together, we endeavor to build and deliver a comprehensive and cutting-edge program that emphasizes IP’s important role as a tool for business growth and sustainability. Students will have the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the strategic importance of Business Management of IP in today's global economy, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to drive innovation, foster entrepreneurship, and navigate the complexities of IP law and business.
