The IPRE is an international conference that brings together intellectual property (IP) academic researchers to discuss their works-in-progress with peers and policymakers. The IPRE is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the School of Law of the University of Geneva.

Who can apply?

The IPRE features primarily European-focused IP research, however researchers writing on topics dealing with IP law-related issues that are relevant under European law, comparative law or international law are welcome to apply.

Researchers at any stage of their careers are welcome to submit their papers for the IPRE as long as they are affiliated with an academic institution or research center.

How to apply?

Researchers interested in presenting at the IPRE should apply by March 20, 2023 by submitting an email with the following details to the IPRE administration:

  • The title and short abstract of the paper or work-in-progress (500 words or less) submitted as a Microsoft Word or PDF document.
  • Information on academic affiliation, including a short biography (200 words or less) as a Microsoft Word or PDF document. A recent picture should be included as part of the biography submission.
  • “Application to IPRE 2023” should be indicated in the email subject line.

Please note that there are no registration fees for participating in the IPRE. However, admitted researchers are expected to cover their own travel-related and accommodation expenses, in addition to bearing responsibility for obtaining and covering the costs related to their travel such as visa(s) and any other necessary travel documents.

Applicants will be informed if their application has been accepted by early April, 2023. Accepted applicants should confirm their participation by April 30, 2023.

What will be included in the IPRE?

The first day of the IPRE will be held at WIPO and the second day will be held at WTO. Participation in the IPRE will be exclusively in-person to foster networking for a global IP community.

The first day of the IPRE will also be part of the WIPO-University of Geneva IP Summer School, will be taking place at WIPO headquarters at the same time. The closing of the IPRE 2023 will be followed by the Symposium on the TRIPS Agreement at 25 Years (TRIPS@25) at the WTO. The TRIPS@25 concludes a series of webinars on the impact of the 25 years of implementation of the TRIPS Agreement and will bring together leading international scholars and experts on the subject. IPRE participants will also be able to attend the TRIPS@25 Symposium.
