First WIPO-Kazakhstan Summer School for Russian Speakers

The first WIPO – Kazakhstan Summer School on Intellectual Property (IP) was held online from July 18 to 29, 2022. The WIPO Academy and the National Institute of Intellectual Property of Kazkhstan (Qazpatent) jointly organized the summer school for the benefit of more than 60 Russian-speaking participants from Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

What did the summer school cover?

Participants took part in interactive lectures by renowned IP experts from WIPO, academia, in addition to professionals from the public and private sectors of Kazakhstan. At the end of the summer school program, participants presented their final essays, which were based on topics of their choice from what was covered in the program such as: 

  • IP valuation;
  • Branding;
  • Asset management;
  • IP and the creative industries;
  • Technology transfer; and
  • Licensing

Participants were awarded with a WIPO certificate upon the completion of the summer school program including the final essay.

Mr. Yermek Altynbekov, Director of the Department for IP Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Mr. Ilya Gribkov, Head of the Section for the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe at WIPO, gave welcoming addresses. Ms. Inkara Shertysheva, head of the Development and International Cooperation Division of Qazpatent, and Mr. Ilya Gribkov jointly closed the summer school program encouraging participants to pursue other learning opportunities with the WIPO Academy.
