Apply Now: Master’s Degree in IP at Africa University

Enrollment for the 2022-2023 edition of the Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property (MIP), jointly offered by the WIPO Academy, the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe is open until February 28, 2022. Each year the MIP is organized with the financial support of the Government of Japan, and 27 full scholarships are awarded to qualified candidates from the Africa region.

Important dates to remember

Applications for the MIP and for the scholarship are due by February 28, 2022 on the Africa University website.

Register for the Master’s Degree in IP at Africa University

The MIP consists of three phases that will take place from May 1, 2022 until April 30, 2023:

  • The program will start with a distance learning phase from May 1 to July 20, 2022, which is followed by an
  • In-person residential phase at Africa University from August 1 to December 9, 2022, and finally the program will conclude with the
  • Dissertation writing phase from December 10, 2022 to April 30, 2023.

What will you learn about during the MIP?

The MIP program consists of lectures and practical group work covering a range of intellectual property (IP) topics with a focus on Africa such as:

  • New models of branding;
  • Copyright protection in the digital environment;
  • IP biotechnology and food security;
  • Licensing IP assets;
  • Business model canvas and lean startup methodology; and
  • New media and models of IP enforcement.

All the lectures are taught by renowned IP experts who offer personalized guidance to all students. Alumni of the MIP program have gone on to apply their IP knowledge and skills in careers in academia from researchers to educators, in the public sector as government officials, and in the private sector as entrepreneurs, creators and innovators.
