April 27, 2021

The WIPO Academy in collaboration with the British Council’s Creative Spark Higher Education Enterprise Programme celebrated World IP Day on April 26, 2021 with a special webinar for young entrepreneurs from the Big Idea Challenge. The webinar was organized under the World IP Day theme for 2021 “IP & SMEs: Taking your ideas to market”.  Over 60 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan took part in the webinar.

What was discussed?

The webinar consisted of an interactive panel discussion, which aimed to answer the following three questions:

  • Is creativity a learned skill?
  • How to make a living from video games?
  • How can IP help an entrepreneur take an idea to the market?

Panelists included Professor Leonid Chechurin from Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology, who explained the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) and some useful tricks for thinking creatively. Dr. Gaetano Dimita from Queen Mary University of London spoke about video games and copyright; and Ms. Shakhzoda Aripkhodjaeva, Uzbekistan’s Country Winner of the Big Idea Challenge, talked about how she came up with her healthy cookies start-up, and how she protected her growing “Nutcracker” brand by registering her trademark with the Intellectual Property Agency of Uzbekistan.
