WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers: Launch of new online platform and call for papers

January 13, 2021

The WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers is a peer-reviewed academic journal, published jointly by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) each year since 2010.

The WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers Collection

On the 25th anniversary of the bilateral agreement between WIPO and WTO, which laid the foundation for cooperation in providing technical assistance to developing countries, least developed countries (LDCs), and countries in transition, a new webpage providing a complete searchable list of all papers published in the WIPO-WTO Colloquium series was launched.

Call for Papers

WIPO and WTO are currently accepting papers to showcase recent original scholarship by the alumni group of scholars who have taken part in past colloquia as part of a 2020 special edition of the journal. Abstracts and proposals should be submitted by February 28, 2021, with completed research papers due by April 30, 2021.

Submission Guidelines

The papers submitted should ideally fall under one of the following three themes:

  • The intellectual property (IP) dimension of the COVID-19 pandemic: issues of IP law, policy and practice in responding to a global health crisis;
  • IP, emerging technologies and the challenges and opportunities of the digital environment; and
  • Rethinking IP and development: past lessons and new directions for IP law and policy in the frame of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Rules and Submission Guide” for the Colloquium Papers should be followed, and papers should be between 4,000 to 6,000 words in length including a short abstract.

Please submit papers to wipo-wtocolloq@wipo.int and colloquiumalumni@wto.org, indicating “WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers: 2020 Special Edition” in the subject line of the email.

The 2020 Special Edition WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers

The WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers is an academic journal that stimulates analysis and debate on IP issues particularly of interest to developing countries, LDCs, and countries in transition, providing a uniquely representative and diverse showcase for emerging IP scholarship from across the globe. The COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of the 2020 session of the Colloquium. However, the two organizations are keen to maintain the momentum of support for and recognition of scholarship from a broader base of researchers, and to provide an avenue for cutting edge research in a year when IP law and policy issues are more significant than ever, hence the special edition of the 2020 WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers.
