Innovation and Technology Transfer to Combat Climate Change: WIPO GREEN at COP 25

November 28, 2019

WIPO GREEN participates in the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP 25 with an event on innovation, intellectual property (IP) and climate-smart agriculture, and contributions to the official UN side events.

The COP 25 gathers thousands of policy makers, governmental officials, environmental professionals and scientists in Madrid, Spain, to discuss implementation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

WIPO GREEN – the global marketplace for sustainable technology, and the World Intellectual Property Organization’s unique programme dedicated to combat climate change – organizes an event "Accelerating Innovation and Technology Transfer in Support of Climate Smart Agriculture: What Role for Intellectual Property Rights?" for the COP 25 participants.

Event background

IP rights (IPRs) stimulate climate-friendly innovation and provide the basis for secure licensing agreements – both commercial and non-commercial – that help the diffusion of green technologies globally.

The panel will discuss how the IPR system can contribute to the transfer of climate-change relevant innovation and technology, both from the perspective of commercial and non-commercial use, drawing on the experiences from the current WIPO GREEN Technology Acceleration Project on climate-smart agriculture in Latin America.
