Women and IP - Mauritius
The Ministry of Womens Rights, Child Development and Family Welfare (MWRCDFW), is entrusted with the responsibility to promote women empowerment. In this respect:
- The MWRCDFW is implementing a Micro-credit/Micro-enterprise Programme under IFAD Micro Credit/Micro Enterprise Development Programme in both Mauritius and Rodrigues.
- A vision document on Women Entrepreneurship Development to be implemented over a period of 2 years has been prepared by the Ministry of Womens Rights.
- The National Women Entrepreneur Council (NWEC) provides institutional support to women entrepreneurs. Various services are offered by the Council, such as training, marketing, counseling, dissemination and information amongst others.
The Ministry of Womens Rights collects data from all Ministries and prepared annual reports on sex-disaggregated statistics.
A time-use survey has been undertaken within the normal multipurpose continuous Household Survey in 2003 by the Central Statistical Office to enable compilation of vital statistics on the issue of unpaid work carried mainly by women.
