COPYRIGHT (BERNE CONVENTION) ORDER, 5713—1953*

Pursuant to my authority under section 6 of the Copyright Ordinance, I hereby declare:
Interpretation 1. In this Order:
“Convention” means the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works;
“country of origin” shall have the meaning assigned to it in Article 4(5) of the Convention;
“country of the Union” means any foreign country to which the Convention applies.
Published work 2. A work first published in a country of the Union shall be protected in Israel as if it were first published in Israel.
Work by an author from a country of the Union 3. A work, whether published or unpublished, the author of which was at the time of the making of the work a subject or national of a country of the Union shall be protected in Israel.
Motion picture and architecture works and work included in a structure 3A. A work of the works specified below shall be protected in Israel, regardless of whether the provisions of section 2 or 3 are fulfilled:
(1) A motion picture, which at the time of the making of the work, the center of business or place of residence for the producers thereof was at a country of the Union;

(2) An architectural work situated in a country of the Union, and any other artistic work which has been included in a building ot any other facility located in a country of the Union.
Reservation
4. Notwithstanding anything contained in paragraphs 2 and 3A:
(1) The period of protection for the aforementioned works shall not exceed the term fixed for such works in the country of origin.
(2) articles on current economic, political or religious topics, published in a periodical or newspaper of any country of the Union, may be reproduced by the press unless the reproduction thereof is expressly reserved; provided that their source shall be clearly indicated.
Commencement 5. This Order shall be deemed to have come into force on the 6th Nisan, 5710 (24th March, 1950).
Title 6. This Order shall be cited as the Copyright (Berne Convention) Order, 5713—1953.
