Year of Version 2017 Dates Enacted: April 27, 2017 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights), Enforcement of IP and Related Laws, Other Notes Sections 31 to 34 of the of the Digital Economy Act 2017 (“the 2017 Act”) introduces amendments to the Public Lending Right Act 1979 ('the 1979 Act'), the Copyright, Designs, and Patents Act 1988 ('the 1988 Act'), the Registered Designs Act 1949 ('the 1949 Act'), the Broadcasting Act 1996 ('the 1996 Act'), and the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003 (S.I. 2003/2498). Section 31 of the 2017 Act amends section 5(2) of the 1979 Act, which enters into force on June 30, 2018, in relation to England and Wales and Scotland only, in accordance with the Digital Economy Act 2017 (Commencement No. 6) Regulations 2018. Section 32 amends sections 107, 4(A)(b), 5(A)(b) and 198 of the 1988 Act, which entered into force on October 1, 2017, in accordance with section 3 of the Digital Economy Act 2017 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2017. Section 33 amends Section 24B of the 1949 Act, which entered into force on October 1, 2017, in accordance with section 3 of the Digital Economy Act 2017 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2017. Section 34 repeals (i)sections 73, 73A, paragraph 19 and 19A of the Schedule 2, subsection (3A) of section 134, section 149(za), and section 205B(1)(cc) of the 1949 Act; (ii) section 138 and Schedule 9 of the 1996 Act; and (iii) regulation 22 of the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003, which entered into force on July 31, 2017, in accordance with section 2 of the Digital Economy Act 2017 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2017.
