Decree No. 8.772 was issued to implement Law No. 13.123 of May 20, 2015, which regulates access to components of the genetic heritage, protection of and access to associated traditional knowledge, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits for the conservation and sustainable use of Brazilian biodiversity.
This Decree repeals the following Decrees:
- Decree No. 3.945 of September 28, 2001;
- Decree No. 4.946 of December 31, 2003;
- Decree No. 5.459 of July 7, 2005;
- Decree No. 6.159 of July 17, 3007;
- Decree No. 6.915 of July 29, 2009.
Article 120 of the Decree states that the Decree comes into force on the date of its publication. The Decree was published in the Federal Official Gazette on May 12, 2016; and it came into force on May 13, 2016.
