The Scottish Arbitration Act applies to all arbitrations that are 'seated in Scotland'.
The Act consists of the main body of the Act (37 primary sections) and two schedules including the Scottish Arbitration Rules forming Schedule 1 (introduced by section 7), and Schedule 2 (introduced by section 29) relating to repeals provisions .
The main body of the Act includes introductory provisions (sections 1-3), arbitration agreements (sections 4-6), Scottish arbitration rules (sections 7-9), suspension of legal proceedings (section 10), enforcing and challenging arbitral awards (sections 11-15), statutory arbitration (sections 16-17), recognition and enforcement of New York Convention awards (sections 18-22), supplementary and final provisions (sections 23-37).
The Act repeals the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 1894 (c. 13), the Arbitration Act 1950 (c. 27), and the Arbitration Act 1975 (c. 3).
