These Regulations were issued by the Executive Decree No. 508 of January 25, 1999 to implement the Law on Intellectual Property, published in Official Register No. 320 of May 19, 1998.
The notification by Ecuador to the WTO under article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'The Regulations establish a set of standards and rules issued by the competent authority for the purposes of implementing the Intellectual Property Act.'
