Dominica became independent in 1978 and is a democratic republic. The current Constitution entered into force on November 3, 1978. It has been amended several times since then.
The Constitution is the Supreme law of Dominica (article 117). It provides for the separation of powers. The legislative power is vested in the parliament, the executive power is vested in the President and the cabinet of ministers and the judicial power is vested in the courts.
The Constitution does not contain provisions directly related to Intellectual Property Rights. Nevertheless, Chapter I, section 6 concerns protection from deprivation of property.
