Year of Version 1997 Dates Entry into force: September 25, 1997 Published: September 16, 1997 Promulgated: September 11, 1997 Adopted: August 20, 1997 Type of Text Main IP Laws Subject Matter Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights) Notes This Law provides for the extension of the term of protection of copyright to 70 years that shall begin from January 1 of the year following authors’ death. It further stipulates that works that have entered the public domain before the expiration of the term of protection of 70 years provided for by this Law, will automatically return to private domain, without prejudice to the rights that third parties have acquired in the reproductions of these works made during the time when they were in the public domain.

Article 2 of the Civil Code stipulates: “Laws shall not be binding until after their publication, and as of the stated day. If no day is stated, they shall be binding eight days following their official publication.”
This Law was published in the Official Gazette on September 16, 1997 (B.O. 16/09/97), with no specific date of entry into force; based on Article 2 of the Civil Code it entered into force eight days after its publication.
