This compilation of Australia's trade practices law consolidates the amendments to the original Trade Practices Act No. 51, 1974 up to Act No. 44 of 2010 (prepared 19 April 2010 by the Office of Legislative Drafting and Publishing, Attorney General's Departement, Canberra).

The object of the Trade Practices Act, 1974 is "to enhance the welfare of Australians through the promotion of competition and fair trading and provision for consumer protection" (see Chapter I "Preliminary", section 2 "Object of this Act").

The Department of the Treasury through the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) administers the parts of the Act which deal with competition and consumer protection.
